World Photography Day : 19th August

“A picture is worth a thousand words”

                                            -Albert Einstein

World Photography Day is a day whereby we pay tribute to the incredible art form that is ‘Photography’.

In 1826, French man, Niepce captured the earliest known permanent photograph known as “View from the Window at Le Gras” using a process called heliography.

And then in 1837, Niepce along with Daguerre came up with the optimistic photographic process, known as Daguerreotype.  On 9th January 1839, the French Academy of Sciences (FAS) made an official announcement regarding the process.

On August 19th, 1839 FAS acquired the patent and gifted it to the world for free. This day is celebrated as World photography day.

On August 19, 2010, World Photography Day hosted its first global online gallery. People all around the globe have been celebrating World Photography Day ever since.

The below stamp was issued by Germany on 8th June 2017, for the 100th anniversary of the Birth of Heinz Sielmann, a wildlife photographer.
