Children's Day - Thailand

Thailand celebrates its children's day(Wan dek) on second Saturday in the month of January since 1955.  It is celebrated to create awareness about children's roles and responsibilities in the future of the country.

Each year it is celebrated with unique theme and slogan.

On this day, His majesty and Prime minister deliver speeches to the children of  Thailand.

On this day, children are allowed to visit, Government offices, Parliament, Military offices and other private and public institutions.  Almost all fun activities in amusement parks, game zones are free for the children on this day.

In 2013 Thailand  commemorated this event with a long sized stamp with cartoon characters wearing the 10 Asean countries (Brunei, cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam) national costume.

I am very thankful to Pinthip for sending this stamp on card.

Kite stamps - Thailand

On 9th October 2004 Thailand Post has issued 4 kite stamps for the letter writing week.  I got 3 from my Penpal, Jum on cover.  In addition to that some nice Fauna stamps too.  Thanks a lot Jum for enriching my Flights of Fancy collection and Fauna collection.  Always nice to have penpals like you who not only share their culture, art, education and common things but also enriching my stamp collection hobby.

Looking forward to more exchanges.

Silk Stamps: Thailand

Traditionally Chinese Silk is world renowned.  But the silk industry in Thailand, India and few other countries are becoming increasingly popular.  In case of India, silk from a region called Kanchipuram  is very popular.  In recognition of this India post has issued stamp depicting traditional silk motifs on regular paper.

In 2010 as a part of Asian International stamp Exhibition Thailand has issued four postage stamps featuring amazing Thai Silk. 15,000 sets of stamps were hand made from about 6,000 yards (5,486 meters) of silk.  Each sheet contains four stamps.
