Malaysia - Traditional Boats

 Malaysia - Traditional Boats

The Kolek Barat boat is a traditional fishing vessel from the west coast of  Malaysia, particularly in Kelantan.  Renowned for its intricate carvings and vibrant paintings, it reflects the artistic heritage of the Malay community.  Beyond its practical use for fishing, the Kolek Barat is a symbol of cultural pride and is often showcased in boat races and festivals.

The Lepa boat, native to Sabah, the Bajau people, often referred to as "Sea gypsies".  Traditionally used for both fishing and as a home.  It is celebrated annually during the Regatta Lepa festival.
